Today I arrived in Frankfurt am Main, Germany! After eating and resting up in my hotel, I decided to set out late in the afternoon for a bit of sightseeing and culture experiencing. Frankfurt is the economic powerhouse of Germany, and one of Europe's wealthiest cities. This was immediately evident strolling down the streets, which possessed an abundance of glass and steel towers. Frankfurt possess 9 of the ten tallest skyscrapers in Germany, and is sometimes referred to as "Mainhattan."
I made my way from the Hauptbahnhof up the main street towards the business and market district. After chatting with a friendly local, I was directed to the visit the Zeilgalerie shopping centre which affords a lovely rooftop view of Frankfurt's skyline.
Making my way down to the Römerberg, I stopped in at a local street fair and tasted some Apfelwein (Cidar), which Frankfurt is well known for. While there I struck up a conversation with two Italian girls, Jessica and Francesca. They were up in Germany for the long weekend and were headed to Munich at 6am the next day. Together we explored a little more of Frankfurt, and drank some more beers.
And so began my pact to drink at least one beer every day I was in Germany.
