13 hours later I was in Amsterdam international airport, transported by what can only be described as an overcrowded, 20yo flying coach. On the plus side I was seated next to another agreeable chap, Mercel from Holland. A biomedical engineer, he had just come back from a few weeks in New Zealand.

My time in Amsterdam was both good and bad. First the good, as my flight to Amsterdam was delayed on departure it caused me to miss my connecting to Stockholm. Finding myself sitting in a 2hr queue at the transfer area, I sat myself down next to Susi, a pretty 21yo Viennese girl. She was just coming back from Taipei, following a year there studying Chinese. A classical ballerina, we had some things in common and went on to be friends, unfortunately I forgot to ask for a photo. For my first time in Europe I felt it was a nice way to start things.

The bad being I lost my carry-on luggage in the airport. I put it down at a drink bubbler about 50m before customs. After walking through customs, I realised that it was no longer in my possession but they wouldn't let me walk back through. At that hour there was no one that could help me, with the only info desk on that half of the airport closed. I did get a lost and found number to call later today, but I doubt I'll see the expensive gift again :(

My arrival in Stockholm was a relatively non-affair. I've met some nice people, and some non-receptive people. I did manage to get invited out last night by a nice group of Finns, but by 8:30pm last night I found myself needing sleep. I did cook myself a good dinner last night, making up for airplane food; the best bit being a seared fillet of salmon; fish is unbelievably cheap here.

Well it's 7:15am and it's time I got some breakfast; I've got a big day of walking ahead.
