Day 6 - Helsinki in the night

Steven @ Mon, 2007-02-19 07:55

I met two great people at the hostel in Helsinki, Juho (John), who worked the desk there at the hostel, and Morten, a forward and energetic guy from Denmark. Morten and I hit the town that evening, heading straight to the Aussie bar.

There we met two splendid Aussie guys working the bar, Pete and Marco. With them was Jessica, a very attractive half Swedish/American girl. Unlike most of the girls I’d met in Finland so far, this one was very friendly and open. We got on very well, laughing a lot and sharing stories. While usually a bit of trouble, Jess wasn’t drinking this evening after a hard one last night, and an early bar close tonight. Pete and Marco were also great fun, plying us with all the national drinks of Finland. We said goodnight to Jess and the boys around 2am and headed off to another place.

Totally hammered, Morten ran into two Finnish guys, cousins, who took us to some bar nearby. What a shit hole, the place was basically empty except for a few pub dwellers, the sort that fare better in a dimly lit atmosphere. The doorman of the joint also struck me as being a real evil bastard; I couldn’t wait to get out there. Thankfully we moved on quickly, but the rest of the evening turned out to be uneventful; being a Monday evening, and with Finnish clubs closing at 3am every night, things were quiet. We returned home around 3 or 4 for some late night kitchen shenanigans.
